Standing on a nice outcrop above the plain, easy access. Top of the pillar is a bit care-worn and there's a hair fracture running horizontally around the pillar a little above the FB. Original centre cap has gone, replaced with an asphalt plug; sight holes not noted, but photographs show front and LHS are sealed. Extensive panoramic views.

Fine viewpoint on striking, albein heavily quarried hill. Kaimes Quarry landfill is now filled and landscaped. I went in from the A70 through the marsh. Not hard, but wet feet mandatory. Nearly tripped over a fox. Saw deer in here as well. Only cloud on the horizon was generated by the quarry. Smelly dusty thing, but an impressive hole. Enjoyed the view on a clear morning.

Third visit. The pillar has a horizontal crack across the middle of it and is now devoid of paint. Spider centre plugged with coarse cement. Flush bracket is on the southeast face of the pillar. Dalmahoy Hill is on the western outskirts of Edinburgh, nearly 9 miles from the city centre. Access to this hill is not easy. There are quarries to the north and east, a landfill site to the west and the land to the south is very boggy. A right of way leaves the A70 at NT151665 and is probably the best approach. Take care whilst walking round the quarry edges to east end of the hill.
