Parking in Rockbourne is best described with the word "limited" and also the word "very". In all other respects, this is an easy and enjoyable bag, though as the gap in the hedge is at the bottom of the hill rather than the top, it requires walking up the hill, down the other side to the end of the hedge, and then back up it again on the other side!

Lots of flooded roads, the A338 at Fordingbridge was later closed. Tricky to find a parking spot in Rockbourne, parked by telephone box. Stream had flooded the road. Up track south west of village almost opposite turning for Whitsbury. After about four hundred metres, around side of gate track turns north west, another 150 metres head south west again, not sure if footpath signed here but seemed like the right direction as hill ahead could be made out in the dark. Along north side of hedge field boundary. Through metal gate then steep climb. At brow, through hedge on left, pillar could just be made out on skyline in the dark. Barbed wire fence and lots of brambles to clamber over and through. About thirty metres to pillar. Fortunately stands out, not buried in hedge. Would have been much more difficult in the dark, rain and howling wind. Lights visible in distance so probably good daylight views.

Extensive gorse hedge running next to the pillar recently had a severe trim. Pillar is in good condition; all sight hole were sealed, one is opening up; original cap in place. The pillar stands near a gorse hedge on the side of a grass field. The field is on a Hampshire spur of the Wiltshire Downs to the northwest of Fordingbridge. It has a metal cap with shallow lettering and FB S2807. A path goes up the hill from the edge of the village of Rockbourne to the east. The field is easily entered from its western corner. Rolling grass downland can be seen to the north. Wooded downs are to the west and low lying forested heath in the distance to the south. Sir Eyre Coote’s Monument stands prominent in parkland on the southern end of the spur. The path heading north from the site affords a pleasant long range view eastwards.
