My third visit, a big day out with Simon Rushton a ten mile three TP point to point walk. Left my car by Grasslees N of Darden Pike, and left Simon's on the B6342 at the 217 point E of Garleigh Moor and walked the length of the Simonside ridge via Garleigh Moor, Dove Crag, Simonside, Tosson Hill, Boddle Moss and Darden Rigg. Fantastic! Knackered!!

From the lay by to the north. The heather varies from shin to thigh high in places with the path through it thin and over grown in places, would be hard work and very wet after a rain. Path is well marked by posts.

From car parking area to north. Found westerly route very overgrown - barely a hairline in the heather - and difficult to follow. Returned on easterly footpath which was much more distinct but could be boggy during wet spells.

Anti-clockwise circular walk from the car park to the north. OK today but guess the track would be troublesome in wet weather. Not a soul to be seen, good views.

Cushioned in a swathe of purple heather this trig is a happy chappy. I parked in a lay by on the Hepple to Elsdon road. Lovely circular route. Colours remind me of Wimbledon.

From small car park NNW of trig. Path was as dry as a bone today. Good distant views.

Good circular walk from car park on road between Hepple and Elsdon. Took anti-clockwise route, I think this affords the better views, plus the path is better on the upward half of the trip. Still pretty wet, muddy and slippery! Great views from the Trig Point and the cairn, it was a clear day and we had really extensive views south. The dog was especially happy at the discovery of Darden Lough, had a hard time getting her out of it!

Parked at the same place as Clochandighter took the more easterly PROW to trig. Deceptively long trudge through heather moorland and mud...rewarded by good summit with sandstone views as the clouds were gathering and the wind was getting up. Completed the round by returning on the western path which is 100% better underfoot, would recommend that route over the other. Abandoned thoughts of Tosson Hill via Simonside as the heavens opened when we were about 200m from the car...phew.
