Descended from South Nab to the A628 at SE155001. Crossed to the moorland track on the opposite side of the road and followed it past the remains of Lady Cross (a stump in a moat of frozen water). Ground was rather boggy towards the bottom just before picking up the Trans Pennine Trail. Crossed Salter's Brook by means of a charming packhorse bridge to again cross the A628. Continued westwards along the Longdendale Trail before taking a track up the hill at SK120999 to an abandoned quarry whilst a helicopter was busy ferrying material along the valley. Entered the quarry by climbing a metal gate and made my way through the abandoned workings whereupon the pillar soon came into view across the moor. Made straight for the pillar on a bearing of 007. Ground was reasonably firm thanks to a hard frost overnight but every so often one of my feet would disappear into wet bog. Location even more isolated than South Nab but the views down Longdendale were excellent. Pillar in good condition with a lovely coat of white paint.
