Nice man let me park in his drive at the manse - otherwise parking might be problematic. Along field edge - nice to have enough space to walk for once - right along forest edge. Outside trees easier than in trees. Easy stroll of less than 10 minutes.

Walked up from the decaying kirk. It's a fine building, surely it deserves preserving? As I walked away up the hill there were two oystercatchers sat comfortably upon the kirkyard wall. The pillar remains in good condition with its cap in place with indented inscription. A bonfire smouldered nearby sending smoke swirling through the woodland, somehow making the scene more redolent of autumn rather than this dull February day. Upon my return I noticed that the oystercatchers were still there enjoying the serenity of the countryside!

Nice and easy to get to. I followed the cycle path from Perth, until it turns right over the railway. At this point you need to cross the A9 and head up a vehicle track round the edge of the tree line. Follow the track past a second mast that is not marked on the OS map and then take a left and follow the tree line to the trig.

In a woodland strip just outside arable field. Pillar VGC. Spider has OS cap with indented font. FB faces 329, NNW to boundary fence. Vented through back sighting hole. GPS wouldn't settle for better than 15m accuracy because of woods. View to Craig Obney. Photographed 1/10/2005, GRP.
