Followed cjo s route nice walk up through the wood then through the deer gate and followed the fence up,was a bracken fest this time of year was a job pushing through to the top in the humid conditions. Had to climb the high deer fence to touch the trig and photo fb painted white remote spot. Could see this fell clearly from my accommodations bedroom window !

Parked at the T junction to the north west then along the lane to the end of the public road & up the bridleway. We went through the deer fence gate onto the open access land & up along the fence line. This proved to be a good move as the woods have been devastated by winter storms so there is tangle of downed trees & fallen branches up the top of the hill in addition to the areas of existing rhododendrons which would make access tricky. The sides of the pillar have had a recent coat of white paint, the top wasnt touched. Routinn Linn waterfall (close to where you park) is a pleasant little waterfall & is worth a visit.

Parked at the junction walk along the road then into the wood at the second gate. Through the wood and up to the trig. Easier trig to bag. I thought it might hard to find but the are trees well spaced. Just have to skirt around the Rhododendrons.

My second visit, different route. Parked by Routin Lynn and walked S past the triangular pasture field to the E of the lane where there is a gap in the wall (a proper gap, like a gateway). Headed into and up through the woods, there's a real steep section up to the ridge of the hill but found a sort of path up it - I suspect its the work of badgers, there are some obviously occupied setts at the top of the crags. Having read the reports of other Triggers since my last visit this approach was more straightforward than I'd feared, and a lot quicker - car to TP in 25 minutes. Really satisfying finding this one again by this route.

Route as Paulxtr. The logging tracks in the wood start out ok but soon become overgrown with deep wheel ruts under the grasses. The last part of the walk along the boundary witht he access land is a little bit of a headache, lots of fallen trees and ferns to contend with.

Parked at the Y fork road to access Routin Lynn waterfall. nt984367. Walked SE along the road for about 1km. No vehicle access. In fact signs stated no access. I took to walking this minor road and came across a diverted footpath sign. Followed this NE through the plantation. Came across a deer gate. Went through the deer gate to open field and followed the fence line N to another deer gate. Alas the pillar located within the deer fence and wood plantation. I settled for some photos through this fence. Full of optimism and a fantastic trig this turned out to be a damp squid. On peering through the fence I could see this pillar shows some hairline fractures at lower section. On the good side I observed at close up a buzzard.

Deer Gate Following a walk through the plantation came across the first of two deer gates.
Doddington Pillar SW View. Looking at this through the deer fence.
Buzzard Observed on minor road from Routin Lynn to Kimmerston. Near Whinney Plantation.

Parked at the T Junction at 020353 and followed Bridlepath WNW across pasture field (very faded sign warning of 'bull in field' on gate into field, no bull to be seen) headed to top right of field, through another field then into rough area before passing through a double gate and headed NW to gate in top corner of this field by the plantation wall. Steeper, rougher section to hill top, easier to take a zig-zag traverse on a rough track NE then NW and rejoin the wall where it turns left and the TP is easily seen about 20m further along the wall (and after the end of the pigwire & barbed wire fence). This whole area is succumbing to a major infestation of Rhoddedendrum Ponticum, a dreadful non-native invasive weed. No views in any direction to speak of, but the walk back to the car affords good views of the hills from Shepherdskirk Hill to Ross Castle.

Parked on the road to the NE and walked down the edge of the rough pasture (with rampant rhodies and birch) to the trig, hiding behind a wall. The land is access land (on our map and I've just rechecked on the internet) so we ignored the Keep Out signs. But that and the sound of shotgun fire from three different directions in the late afternoon gloom made for an uncomfortable experience.
