Easily accessible from the Scottish Heritage Doon Hill car park. There's excessive barbed wire but there's a gap between the fields lined with short wind-battered trees and you can just duck under the wire at the end. Fantastic view over Dunbar and the river. Field ploughed right up to the pillar but pillar in pretty good order.

Parked at Pinkerton Y fork road nt704757. Walked uphill on minor road. A sign Doon Hill shows your way up another uphill track. Visited the Anglo Saxon site then crossed a couple of barbed wire fences avoiding the cattle to enter a wheat field. Followed the tractor route to this pillar. A recently refurbished plinth. Commanding great views includes the Bass Rock. Spent time on return to explore the Anglo Saxon Site now shown by cement lines. You need to spend time exploring this location as it is not visible from the interpretation board. Info provided is brilliant.

You can drive almost all the way to the top of Doon Hill. The road is clearly signposted from the A1. Drove up to the NTS carpark. At the top, the 'road' is just a farm track, but it's OK for a normal 2WD car. Had to squeeze through a fence to get into the field with the trig in it. If you follow the fence along until you are in line with the trig there is a short section with no barbed wire.

Doon Hill is in East Lothian, just two miles south of Dunbar. The summit is used for cattle grazing. Never did find a proper route up Doon Hill from the track to the NW. Fence to climb at top of steep woodland slope. The trig pillar built in 1952 is still in very good condition. The base has been extended to combat ground erosion by livestock. The spider retains its original stamped deep font OSTS plug. The flush bracket faces southeast.

In 1953 this marker was computed for triangulation as tertiary station NT86/T6 in the Berwick secondary block. Like many pillar stations in Secondary Block NT86 the flush bracket was never levelled for height. This trig point was last maintained by the OS in August 1989. Good coastal views.
