Broke all my own rules for this one. Did not use public transport, did not combine it with any others and used other people's reports to reach it. In my defence (against myself!) I had been up since 04.00 am and already been on a trip to the Bass Rock ( and the lighthouse and gannets there) and was heading home in Aberdeenshire. Very easy to reach from Eardley Crescent (was this named after artist Joan Eardley... 2 other streets carry names of Scottish Artists.. Cadell and Ferguson). Path at end climbs gently up to the top of Dover Heights just a few metres from the road end and a faint feral path branches off to the pillar a few metres over on the left, within the trees. No significant views but a pleasant green plot within a built up area,

Follow that about 20m until in a wide open area surrounded by trees. Trig is well hidden in bushes a few metres WSW. Some damage starting due to undergrowth/moss/dampness.

From road, path runs south on east side of school. Past new housing development on east of path. Path bears right, west, with residential properties on right. From here, tricky to locate, took a while. From path onto grassy common with vegetation growing around. South of path, followed muddy trail, near a clearing with an area of flattened grass, then a few metres further on into fairly dense vegetation to discover pillar, looking as if it has been forgotten about. Next to it is a recently planted lavender. In someone’s memory? Someone else has been here not long ago. Ground nearby is furrowed as if ploughed but now grass and weeds have grown up making for very uneven walking. Take care. Interesting to look at earlier photographs of this location. Great views now lost.

NB it was Persimmon who killed off S4411. TP built 28th February 1948. One of four fourth order pillar stations added to Block NT18 Dunfermline, in 1948. First visit. To record FB number. The pillar was completed 28th February 1948 costing £5.18s.6d. In 1948 this marker was computed for triangulation as fourth order station NT18/T52, in the Dunfermline secondary block. This is one of four fourth order stations that were added to this block, four years after the bulk of the NT18 trigs were built. The flush bracket was levelled for height in 1959. This trig point was last maintained by the OS in October 1987. Still on farmland in 1985.
