Spoke to friendly farmer at Swanmore Farm who gave us directions to the trig point in the reservoir compound.

Parked in lay-by outside Swanmore Farm. Walked past gate. A few horses and grooms about. Asked about walking up to the pillar. Suggested I asked at the house, property owners. Dog looked at me but quite friendly. Lady came to the door, permission given, no problem. East along track, good views to south, Solent and Isle of Wight. At top of track, reservoir is on right, go straight on, east, to gate into reservoir area. Pillar is around to the right under a tree. Pleasant picnic spot, although didn’t have a picnic. Limited views restricted by vegetation and reservoir mounds to the south.

On arriving at Swanmore Farm, I received permission to view the trigpoint from a very friendly woman. Followed the dirt track uphill as far as possible till it ends next to a gate leading into a small covered reservoir. Trigpoint is on the other side of a wire fence inside the compound, but you can easily squeeze through. Pillar is to the right of the gate under a tree, next to the fence. There is very little to see from the pillar, but if you walk up onto the reservoir there are some lovely views

Asked at Swanmore Barn Farm, which is a livery stable, advised to look for Wendy or Frank the owners. Wendy very happy to give permission and instructions on how to find it. Up the track and between the gate and the fence pillar on the right. Good views from pillar - even better from the top of the reservoir.

Took the direct approach and asked permission, readily given with detailed routing instructions on how to get to it! In a Portsmouth Water Co compound but low security fencing so easily accessible. Original cap in place, indented lettering; LHD side sight hole open. Marginal distant views SW; all other directions obscured by hedgerows etc.

Very good lunch at the Baker's Arms in Droxford (sadly no freebies for those called Baker!), then walked up here and onwards in a northerly loop via the Wayfarer's Way. Beautifully sunny, cold winter's day, so good views of the Solent and I of W south from the trig, other directions rather obscured by trees. Pillar is rather covered in moss and ivy, and sported a 2p piece! Large hole being dug in the reservoir compound immediately to SW, but I suspect pillar will be OK. Metal cap, shallow letters, W s/hole open, exc condition.
