A six trig assault bringing 'closure' to the Derby (Uttoxeter, Ashbourne & Cheadle) OS map 259 with just four trigs 'to get' Drum Hill, Chevin Hill, Chevinside & Morleyhill Farm. Just off map North, Upper Hatsay & The Plantains were also located using Etrex numbers alone having for the moment at least, no desires for OS map 269. For Drum hill drove up to the scout camp car park GR 37349 42121 with the shortest of walks East 'taking' me to the trig...No permission necessary, the camp looked totally deserted most probably consequence of time of year so go get it now! For Chevin Hill lay-by parked on Farnah Green Road at GR 33538 46298. With a right post short road walk North, 'jumping' one fence aside locked gates, a second 'jump' atop of a low but entangled embankment 'put' me on the track 'heading' for the wood & 'led' me to a gate marked 'private no footpath'. 'Jumping' that gate, the trig can be located beyond two gates just off the track. For Chevinside parked in a muddy pull-in on Chevin Road GR 33967 47054 & short road walking South-East 'took' a right into Chevin House Farm. Instructed as to where to find the trig by landowner Richard, somewhat hidden in a wall corner, eventually I found it...Richard 'came across' as a most pleasant chap. For Morleyhill Farm, drove into the farmyard, parking across the way from a coupl'a chained-up dogs that barked but didn'a appear to be hostile (GR 37192 48794) & walking on a tad was soon surrounded by a pack of friendly dogs & their owner Kim who was absolutely lovely. Permission granted, I 'jumped' a fence to locate the trig in a small enclosure 'housing' half a dozen cows, one horned, a West Highland I think which 'gave' me no bother. For Upper Hartsay, parked on-road at GR 38058 50425 & crossing over, 'took' a left about the second public footpath sign, the gate at the first appearing to be locked. The trig clearly visible amidst children's playground apparel was easily accessed close against a fence easily straddled. For The Plantains parked in the widened, 'fanned-out' area just off-road of the Heage windmill GR 37012 50939. The access gates locked & windmill un-visitable most probably consequence of time of year, parking here for the trig presented no problem so go get it now! Walking 420 strides in the direction of the alternative parking area 'pull-in' located just across the road, 'took' a left to 'jump' a gate & 'jumping' a second, went right to locate the trig in the hedge. Whilst there is enough room to photograph the flush bracket this side, getting thro' the hedge to the other side was not that much of an ordeal, indeed the trig can even be encircled given a bit of 'grin & bearing'. Out at 06:00 & back home post a 146 mile 'round' trip from Salford, Manchester at 13:30 with all six trigs 'bagged' by 11:15. All things considered, a deserted scout camp access, a woodland & hedge trig, a coupl'a permissions & two trigs found without a map a relatively easy day as 'trigbagging' goes & with it, that's that, the Derby (Uttoxeter, Ashbourne & Cheadle) OS map 259 retired!. Tis "Oh so satisying" finishing a particular OS map, way more important to me than total trig number. With 781 in 'the pot', it's all 'hands-on' the Market Drayton (Loggerheads & Eccleshall) OS map 243 for the next month or so.
