10 mile walk on Gorllwyn and Drygarn Fawr, on a lovely sunny day. I was expecting the walk between the two to be hideous and boggy, but it hasn't rained up here for ages so it was bone dry underfoot, made for very easy grassy terrain. Lovely area.

Continued SW on FP through forest to return. TP loses prominence to the two impressive cairns, which had been visible for much of my outward leg. Hot, cloudless day, and huge, sweeping views.

Ascent from the south via the metalled forestry track from the minor road between Abergwesyn and Tregarron (NT Abergwesyn Common) and once out on the open fell, walked directly to the summit on a feint path with surprisingly little "bog-trotting". Low cloud and drizzle spoiled any chance of a view but we had been on Gorllwyn a couple of days earlier so had an idea of what would have been on show. Ticking off the Welsh "Nuttall's" - only eight left to do. The cairn is impressive - shades of Nine Standards Rigg in the Yorkshire Dales.

Low score for this hill as it's a vast plateau of peat bog - wet and miserable, especially when the weather is also wet and miserable. Made a long 13-mile trudge out of this to bag the hill and also the Gorllwyn trig. Impressively large and well-built beehive cairn close by was about the only redeeming feature as it gave me some shelter from the wind to eat a little lunch.

This was my third visit to this top,but the first since I have been trigpointing, so required another walk to take photos. Opted for an approach from the SW as 2 previous visits have been from the NE.Parked just before Devils Staircase it is then a straightforward climb up open hillside to gain a forestry track through wood. Then headed out across hill to intercept bridleway that leads to summit. Even though part frozen this is still wet ground but I think slightly less than the approach from Pen Y Gorllwyn. Pillar has surface damage near spider but otherwise is ok. Lovely area which must rank as one of the quietest walking spots in Wales. Wonderful.

The hike across from Gorllwyn was pathless and full of man eating bog in poor visibility. My compass work needs improving so thanks heavens for the advent of the GPS. The two huge beehive cairns on this summit are amazing. The trig pint is in worse condition than the cairns though a lot younger. Within ten minutes of me starting my decent the cloud cleared and I drove home in sunshine. Sometimes it just works out that way I guess.
