Revisit whilst on BM hunt in the area,access via footpath to the NE of pillar. First bus out of Earby 09.17 M1 to Colne running Sunday service today, then the 10.11 Preston train alighting at Oswaldtwistle.

Bagged after visiting the Stanhill trig. From stanhill took path past the pond to the B6231, crossed over road to take track to Duckworth Hill. No access sign on gate but went in through the gap by the gate anyway

Duckworth Hill. With my sister. Looking for the stile & saw the farmer who was welcoming to visit the pillar. There is mesh above the stile to stop the sheep escaping. Pillar visible from road.

The landowner appears to have codged or semi-blocked access to the footpath at one end, that said it is one of the less useful footpaths. Curlew poking away in the sodden field a welcome antidote to the snow banks on the adjacent lane.

From Minor rd to West , over blocked stile by gate,across damp field passing assorted farm rubbish, the trig sits on blocks in the middle of a puddle Crack on repaired base section and some crumbling Cap-Tar SH one open FB 30 View 360 but the eye is drawn to the farm buildings and associated rubbish

HISTORY: Pillar completed 30th June 1948 costing 14.8s.6d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station SD74/T19 in 1948. Levelled for height in 1961. Last maintained by the OS in October 1979. SITE VISIT: Approached from SW. Parked opposite mapped RoW by wide field gates on west side of road. car remained in sight from trig. Direct route across field. Pillar in good condition, earlier repairs near base apparent. Spider centre plugged with tar. Flush bracket faces northeast, ~36. Vented through NW sight hole. 360 open outlook.

Easily accessible and highly visible. Just of footpath in open field. I parked in the gateway to the west where the path starts. Ground very wet today. Pillar in good condition. Some reasonably good views from the pillar.

Easy access just over a gate and by a public path. In the centre of an extremely muddy sheep pasture! Ashphalt plug replacement. West sight-hole open, others closed. Base exposed about 12" allround and the pillar is sitting in a huge pool of deep mud and slurry - approach with caution or your car will stink for the rest of the day! Lovely N/NE views, moderate S views.

I wholeheartedly endorse earlier comments on the state of the field. After heavy rain there was standing water, and walking boots were not sufficient to keep my legs clean and dry! Trig in good condition.

Easy access from road. Extensive views - on a fine day. Pillar usually stood in a puddle. Pasture around prone to being waterlogged. Wellies advisable in damp weather.
