Destroyed 09/61, location is 47m beyond quarry cliff edge, replaced by block, itself destroyed 04/67, presumably quarry extended further than OS expected. Peregrine flying and calling. Quarry floor landscaped and houses a business premises, plenty cars parked Sun pm. From nw, easier to cross field than walk along busy road

ex location 47m out from quarry cliff edge and up a few metres
view along cliff edge from Block location was 200m along edge, 48m out and up a few

OS records show pillar destroyed September 1961. Quarry now closed and for sale with planning permission. Parked at entrance and walked up onto high ground to N, to closest point on rim to where pillar had been located. Extensive views S over the quarry - sheer drop to quarry floor a definite hazard! Some odd hutted encampments in the woods but no-one around today. Access into quarry reasonably easy, had a look round in there before leaving.

The co-ordinates of where the pillar should be are now on the quarry floor at an altitude of 66 metres; the original altitude of the pillar was 135 metres. Dulcote Hill, a southern outcrop of the Mendips, has been quarried since the 1880s. What remains of Dulcote Hill is steep woodland but due to mist no view possible from the quarry rim on this occasion.
