Loved the setting, bright and sunny today and no wind. The pillar was an easy spot from the carpark but the real stars were the Duncansby Stacks, impressively seen from a cliff walk to the south. Good views of some of the Orkney Isles

Fine pillar with yet another surviving Cold War bunker and fine lighthouse alas the keepers cottages have been demolished. On to the stacks afterwards, fine, but I prefer the other wilder stretches of nearby coast.

Had to wait for a while for the tourists to stop climbing on top of it. Good day now i've seen Duncansby Head and Dunnet Head trigs and light houses from the landward side! Nice calm day on the head land.

Nice easy walk to the trig from road, great views today of the Orkneys and along the coast, walked along to Duncansby stacks afterwards, then it started raining so headed back to the car, bagged Warth Hill trig pillar before and Dunnet Head trig pillar after along with 4 FBMs that day.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 28th September 1951 costing £14.4s.0d. Computed as secondary triangulation station ND25/21 within the Wick block in 1952. Levelled for height in 1955. Last maintained by the OS in June 1981. SITE VISIT: Approached from north. Free public car park on clifftop at ND405733. Short walk southwards up to trig. Reaching here means that I have now bagged all the trig pillars on the east coast of mainland Scotland. Public open space next to ROC bunker. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces north, ~351°. Vented through south sight hole. Full 360° panoramic view from top.

We continued our geocaching drive round Caithness. We picked up the EarthCache here as well as photographing this trig.

Visited in the evening sunshine straight after returning to the mainland on the ferry from Orkney. Beautiful location, stunning sea stacks to the south, views to Orkneys and Dunnet Head to the north-west and west respectively. Plug missing, otherwise in good condition. Unfortunately I neglected to check GPS at trig so am unable to offer a position. Stopped afterwards at the (highly recommended) Schoolhouse Restaurant just before reaching the main road in John o’ Groats.

Lovely spot - why anyone would want to visit JOG when they could come here instead is beyond me. A remote spot, with views across to fantastic sea stacks and a short grassy track if you want a closer look at them. Good condition, plug missing, concrete plinth.

What a magnificent morning. Spectacular views in every direction. Missing plug but a lot of white paint still in evidence. S sighthole open, others closed. Concrete base exposed about 12" all round. Great spot!

Visited en-route from staying at the hostel at Tongue and driving to our next hostel at Balintraid House on the Cromarty Firth. John O'Groats had to be stopped at and also Duncansby Head, although didn't take any details of the trig as it was our pre-trig days.

Disappointed to be visiting Duncansby Head on such a wet day - we were meeting Discovery Travel customers who had walked End to End! Lots of puffins around and the coastline and stacks were magnificent. Plug missing.

Love the view of the stacks from here. Right next to an open ROC observation post if you fancy a climb down into the dark damp interior. Plug missing.

Caithness. An ambition fulfilled in getting here. The views are excellent over the coastline with the Stacks of Duncansby in one direction and the Orkney Islands in the other. The plug is missing.
