Wasn’t the order of stops as planned but saw the sign for Dundry when heading south west along the A38 and decided to head for this point. Parked on roadside in village about 150 metres south east of the church. Headed west but didn’t feel quite the right direction, not sure why. Lane turned south with a scrap yard to the west with a mannequin on an old motorcycle by the entrance to the yard. Bit gruesome. Map seemed to show a footpath heading west. There was a bolted gate into a field so climbed over the wall next to it. A bit like a horse paddock but no horses about. Stopped to check map. Headed west past heaps of soil and heavy machinery tracks. Reached a footpath running south to north from the lane. To the east were piles of rubble and soil. To the west a wall and thick vegetation. There was a mound of high ground to the west by a gate into the next field but no sign of pillar. Checked detailed map on here and headed back to the yard. Clambered up a pile of spoil and could just see the pillar about 75 metres to the east but no obvious path to it. Carefully down a screen of loose rubble into a shallow quarry pit, then up the other side. Was beginning to think the pillar had been buried under a pile of rubble, quite easily see that happening with all the digger holes and moved soil. Next to a mast of about twenty feet but a bit rusty and cables easy to miss. Plugged cap. Raised S prefix. Views lost, scrap yard to east and quarry and rubble to west and north. Little bit hazardous to get to. On way back to village along lane views open out across to Bristol, Clifton Suspension Bridge and the Severn Estuary beyond.

Appears more of summit area may now have been quarried than on earlier logs, pillar isolated on small remaining area by mast, could see it through thick brambles from south, but inaccessible. From west would have required scrambling over quarried rocks, too dangerous with a dog, not worth the risk; eyes on was enough. Summit area thoroughly spoiled in what otherwise would be an attractive setting.

Well sign-posted when travelling south, not well marked for going northwards.

Ealier loggers' concerns that the footpath was poorly marked, or not where it should be, have been addressed. The footpath has been officially diverted and now runs north from the entrance to Castle Farm and passes to the west of the pillar. There is not much junk on this side and the pillar is easily seen.

Surprised this has survived the activity around it ,there are so many disused pieces of machinery ,even a plane. Also a lot of digging and no footpath shown where it should be.

We parked by the church and approached the trig from the footpath, no longer marked, to the south. The site appears to be some kind of agricultural dumping ground, as noted by Mick and Shane, and there was even a light aircraft nestling among the piles of scrap metal and piles of mud and rubbish to the north. At the time, there were four tractors constantly coming out of the "farm" with huge trailers of grass and one of them appeared to want to run us down. I thought the countryside was supposed to be peaceful on a Sunday! Tarmac plug

Hit and run (not that I dared) from the south with a strange look from a passing local. Scrap is becoming an access issue and as the footpath is poorly signed it might be worth raising it with the local council. Trig itself looks safe for now on a raised knoll above the junk. Too dark for photos now.

Approached via unmarked path from south. It's a pity that the unsightly scrap heap is spreading ever closer to the trig point. Field shared with a heard of placid cows. Didnt attempt to follow the path NE through piles of junk but continued north across Dundry Down to join path towards Dundry Village.

A good viewpoint spoilt as Fsagadh mentions. Access is a bit tricky also as the path doesn't actually go past the trig.

Followed the bridleway across the fields from the village of Dundry. The pillar site is a bit of a tip but on the plus side there's good views of Bristol from nearby.

A notorious marilyn. The summit is in some sort of agricultural scrap yard. First attempt failed as a cow had just calved on the path, a year later I cycled up on a tour of the two North Somerset marilyns.
