My birthday and in between dropping off my grandson at drama school and meeting him again to go to an escape room acitivity (something we both love doing) I had a few hours to visit some pillars, mainly by foot. The weather was sunny and dry. I had already visited pillars no 1 & 2(TP6830 & TP2513) using my van for the first and then walking from St Andrew's Square for the 2nd after which I walked up to this one and spent a little while trying to find the closest access. I was frustrated by the wall and excessive undergrowth (there was a low wall but the way beyond that was choked with ivy) but others appear to have got closer. There would be great views over the roof tops from the pillar but not being able to get any closer I score this a lowly 3 and can't comment on the condition (probably good) or record the FB number. After this one I went on to Arthur's seat, one I had visited at least 3 times previously. Today it was excessively busy but I just managed to get past the crowds to the pillar, my 4th of the day. Then I headed to meet my grandson at "Can you Escape Edinburgh" Yes we could and we had a great time doing it before catching the tram at St Andrew's Square back to P&R. For me a total walk of 10.5 miles and 4 trigs

Parking at Holyrood car park, then over Salisbury Crags, along to Arthurs seat, then Dunsapie and Dunsapie Pillar, back via Edinburg FMB and Aux, Amazing view today and a great walk! Pillar is clearly visible FB readable with bins, no way in today.

Stood on top of the wall and decided to go no further. FB is visible, and readable, from the gate. As Henry (or was it Shakespeare?) said, discretion is the better part of valour - after all the inner security fencing looked tricky.

P106. I thought this was going to be a challenge but was quite simple. Waited for a gap in pedestrians and then just ran at wall and up and over. Dropped down. Then into fence with razor wire. Tried a couple of options then found a good entry point in, quick photos and back out. Getting back over wall was a bit more difficult. In and out incl photos 5 mins 17 seconds. No injuries - well a few scratches.

Log #246. Too much foot traffic today for any shenanigans, but viewed through outer gate. Looks to be fine, and grass is quite short. Brilliant views over the South East of Edinburgh and down the coastline of the river Forth. Pitty you can not get right up to the Pillar as Scottish Water have two high fences/walls with locked gates preventing access.

Another naughty trig locked up by Jack Aubrey! First fence looks climbable and second layer of triple razor wire is very similar to that at West Bank Resr in East Lothian that I have climbed before (although only with a gash to my leg and trousers). Busy nature of the location on a Sunday afternoon prevented any attempt today though.

Unreachable, but I've been in there in the past. None of the trig uninformed community will ever be aware of the existence of the Dunsapie Tank trig pillar, just outside Edinburgh's Holyrood Park. The pillar is on a block on top of a covered water cistern. There is no public access. It is imprisoned in a walled area with secured gates. Lower parts of the wall have been topped with barbed wire assisted with thorn branch cuttings. In Jan/Feb 2003, an additional security fence topped with 3 courses of razor wire has been erected inside this already secure compound. The site is overlooked by houses and there is even a burglar alarm inside the compound. The pillar is in good condition probably due to lack of public access. The flush bracket is on the west side and can be read through the locked gate with good binoculars when the grass is short. The spider still retains its original plug. 28/05/2005: If somebody doesn't attend to the dense undergrowth soon, it will soon be possible to visit this pillar undetected. Most recent visit (peering thru gates) 2/01/2006.

S3016 - Dunsapie Tank (OSLR.66) Since these photographs were taken, an additional security fence topped with 3 courses of razor wire has been erected inside this already secure compound. Photographed 11th January 2003 when the foundations and cabling for new security arrangements were being installed.

A quick visit to the Inn Pinn of Embra trigs. Natty razor wire. Much prefer the Ruardean Hill approach. Had a peek through the fence from the park. Must try and ambush a lawn mowing party in the summer. 27/7/04 Still in its cage. 18/12/04 Still in its cage. Not likely to find mowers right now.

Having read the logs of this place over the months, no visit to Edinburgh would be complete without tracking it down! It's like a Guantanamo Bay for trig pillars! Got the flush bracket number through the binoculars as the grass wasn't that tall. Can't add anything else, really; it's just a priviledge to have been here!

I'd saved this one to be my last trig on Landranger 66. Living in Edinburgh I often do Arthurs Seat so had a very nasty shock to see the new fence around it. Fortunately so new no padlock yet on gate. Over wall to side, through gate and photos taken very quickly.

Used it to callibrate altimeter. Easy climb over wall. Didn't know about this site when I did this so no bracket number noted. No fencing issues at this time!

First sighting of this pillar was in 1983. In those days there was only the outer security ring, but this included lots of barbed wire on the perimeter walls much of which is now gone. I first read the FB in 1987 using binoculars when the grass was short. In 1988, the wall to the RHS of the gate was taken down and rebuilt. This was the only time I has able to march straight into this pillar without having to climb over or through something. After the wall was rebuilt, the barbed wire was renewed along the back of it.
