Arrived by car, but otherwise followed Earby Rambler's footsteps and shared his sentiments. Great views, initially of Grisedale and the Settle-Carlisle railway, then the 3 Peaks and finally the Howgills. Did the walk with cousin/friend Chris whose Dad was born and raised at Moor Rigg in Grisedale. The present incumbent told us that Moor Rigg was the assembly point for the schoolchildren before they walked over a mile over the moor to Lunds School. We also found out that a lot of babies were born at Moor Rigg, as that is where Grisedale's "midwife" lived

We came over from Wild Boar Fell and had the long slog to ascend Baugh Fell and then descend to Uldale on pathless moorland. Bagged 4 Nuttalls and 2 pillars. This one was a very fine stone pillar in good condition. No views from this fell. Another one gifted to recent episode of The Archers. Superb acting and listened to the episode three times.

Splendidly isolated stone built pillar with excellent views all round. I walked from Garsdale station across Garsdale Low Moor to the Grisedale Rd then past East House onto Grisedale Common. Took Pennine Journey path NW around Holmes Moss Hill passing Uldale House to take bridleway across the River Rawthey onto West Baugh Fell. Then it was up, up, up pretty much due South across difficult terrain, often finding myself knee deep in bog !! Stopped for a skinny dip at West Baugh Fell Tarn before continuing on to the trig pillar at Knoutberry Haw. Finally it was a case of following the wall all the way back down to the Grisedale Rd at Riggs and along the tarmac back to Garsdale station. 22.8km and m height gain. Didn't encounter another soul all day. NB If coming up from small parking spot at Riggs on the Grisedale Rd you must be on the North side of the wall before the summit (lower down the wall is broken and it is convenient to keep cross-crossing it but higher up the wall is complete and is topped with a wire fence).

First attempt to sumit was aborted on the grounds of safety...slope too steep and snow too hard packed to get secure footing. Tranversed to the west and picked up the wall to the right of Garsdale Pike. Ground not so steep and soft snow underfoot for most of the way. Blowing quite abit on the tops with snow drifting. After a 2 hour slog up and a few wiggles a quick 1 hour down. As others have said wonderful views from the tops. From Pen-y-ghent, Wild Boar Fell, the Howgills and Lakeland fells beyond. The morning had a hard frost today so underfoot was OK but in warmer weather it will be a bit of a bog.
