Parked at south east end of village of East Garston , at the start of a track where there was a No Fly Tipping sign. Map indicated a footpath heading north east uphill although not physically signposted. This threw me. Footpath has either been rerouted or the map was mistaken. Across a ploughed field to a path running north west to south east. Headed south east. After about five hundred meters at bridle way met a couple walking their dog. Enquired if they knew where the TP is. Mr said didn’t know, Mrs was unsure but thought she had seen it uphill, north, on left of path. After another four hundred metres, sure enough, there it was. Views to west and east. Spider and cap in place. Return route was south, down hill to track of old railway with a sign pointing to East Garston. Incidentally, social club in village, has a small cafe with a tremendous selection of homemade cakes. Good find.

Pillar sits in bed of nettles in a gap in the hedge beside the byway. Easy to walk to (I approached it from the track to the west), and might even be possible to drive to! Pillar surrounded by flies at time of visit, and also seems to be popular with the local birds, judging by the mess they've left behind. Pleasant walk offering decent views en route.

Parked on the grass verge at the top of the road that leads to Maidencourt Farm (i.e. S end of the road where it meets the minor road between Great Shefford & East Garston, we parked just behind the rock that said "Maidencourt"). Then walked up N to the trig. Lovely sunny day, very mild for the 2nd week of November. Trig in good condition, original metal cap with lightly indented lettering. As reported by previous loggers, the numbers and letters on the FB has either been damaged / bashed about or were never cast properly. It is possible to drive up to this trig if you have a suitable vehicle (e.g. 4 x 4), but that kind of defeats the purpose of these walks!

Walk from Chaddleworth. This pillar is beautifully situated on the Lambourn Downs. Today felt like high summer, the sound of the larks was sweet upon the air, and there was absolutely no sound audible from the C21. A blissful few moments in time; lolled in the long grass and enjoyed a leisurely lunch in complete isolation, whilst watching the aerobatics of a soaring and majestic red kite appropriately enough heading for Kite Hill. Also noted the silent fluttering of colourful butterflies, and the slashes of poppy red brilliantly speckling the otherwise green landscape - I think I can feel a poem coming on....
