My second visit, again from Lantern Lane, outside where my old school, Harry Carlton Comprehensive USED to stand. Diagonal short cut via PROW across a field then along green lane up slight rise towards the TP. A couple of changes since 2019 - the hedge the pillar sat in has been extensively pruned back, leaving the pillar standing a yard or so proud of the hedge rather than being part of it. The pillar is now easily seen from the gateway off the green lane. Secondly the unwelcoming and unwelcome appearance on the field gates of signs proclaiming "Private Land - No Right of Access". Here's a thought - the pillar is sitting on a wide strip of 'set-aside'. The landowner gets paid a subsidy for having 'set-aside'. The subsidy is paid for by you and me, tax-payers. So the field margin is by rights yours and mine, to access when we bloody well like. The landowner should either stick their 'private land' signs where the sun don't shine or pay us our subsidies back!! Jus' sayin'...

Final nostalgia stop on a day revisiting 'home'...parked up Lantern Lane opposite the new 'Academy' past what was once Harry Carlton Comprehensive School (now houses, boo!) and Lantern Lane Primary School (now also houses, boo!). I spent 7 good years at Harry Carlton, but would on occasion bunk off (esp when it meant playing rugby on the rugby field (now houses, hurrah!). Can't recall wandering quite this far up the bridleways and footpaths around 'Tin Town' (our non-PC nomenclature for the prefab houses at the original end of Lantern Lane), but, for old times sake, I smoked a John Players cigarette at the TP in honour of my times playing hooky!
