Bagged after a family day on the beach at nearby woolacombe. Had to get this one solo as the rest of the crew were too tired and stayed in the car. Parked at the entrance to the track leading to the mast. Short walk up ROW to mast, then a easy walk across grass field to trig which is visible from the mast. Trig is in location shown by OS map, but does look like it might have been moved on account of exposed base and definite wonk. Have scored this one as 10 due to location above a glorious stretch of coastline. Itchy.

Surf poor so the teenage members of the holiday stayed in watching "The Thin Red Line" while we set off for Woolacombe. We parked on the front and set off along the road up Challacombe hill. Found the path off to the left at the second attempt. It's higher up than you think. Then a right turn with the mast in sight. The field the pillar is in is a trespass and slowly growing grass/hay at the time. For a long time the pillar is invisible from the footpath. I know it's up there, but I just can't see it. Terence Malick would have loved it.

The last trig of the holiday - and what a gem!! Access via an open-field [ which badly needs the silage cutters on it!] about 100 yards off a public path. It's all intact with the central plug but it is leaning slightly and there is severe erosion around the base. However, there is a metal plaque on the east face which says: " Dedicated to the Volunteers of the 203 Devon British Resistance Movement known as "Auxilliary Units" who worked in this area 1940 - 1944" Never seen anything like that at all! Thick sea mist today but this would be a super spot on a clear day! A great end to a good few days!
