Good walk up from Melrose, parked behind the Greenyards. Follows part of SUW then across a field. Fab views of Black Hill, Eatlston and the Eildon Hills.

Walked up from Gattonside after visiting the Kittyfield pillar first. The direct route between the pillars was thwarted by a considerable amount of recent ploughing so diverted via Longmeadow Butts. The pillar sits at the summit of Scabbet Hill and retains an original centre cap, deeply indented lettering; rear sight hole open. Good panoramic views.

From the N along the SUW. Parked considerably closer to Mosshouses Moor than I was to this one, but today was about completing Melrose and Selkirk, so I didn't even notice how close to that one I was! The walk was a little under 4 miles there and back, gentle undulating tracks and a simple ascent at the end between two plantations and across a pasture field. All very pleasant, although compared to other TPs in this part of the Borders its not (IMO) among the many exceptional ones.

Safe verge parking at Gattonside Mains next to the wooden fence. Then its just case of wandering up ther SUW and turning right at the pylons. Great views in most directions, with most of the hills around Galashiels easily identifiable.Other tops visible include Dirrington Law, Carter Bar, Three Bretheren, Black Hill Earlston. Rubbish being burned in the adjacent borrow pit / quarry led to a plastic taint in the air, but it couldnt spoil the magnificent views. The farmer passed on his quad bike on the way down so we stopped & had a chat - a very pleasant chap who obviously loves farming this glorious tract of land

Continued my walk from Gattonside and previous trig at Kittyfield. Walked along minor road to Gatton Mains. Followed the Southern Upland Way. Took an east approach using the stone wall and overhead transmission cables as a handline. Pillar is situated next to a small quarry. Spider intact and great views. Inquisitive cattle in adjacent field. This part of the SUP is a popular route for runners and walkers albeit 3 people in total. Another lovely walk on a sky blue warm day.

Parked at Gattonside Mains, nice parking area by the wooden fence. As many other people, walked up the southern upland way and across the field. The small depression / quarry next door has become a bonfire pit for the farmer but doesn't spoil the views.
