Past 2 flooded patches of the path, we managed to walk around the flooded patches easily. Got to the metal gate, climbed over that, and then headed S to the trig point. Lovely views from around here. Why is this trig point not called Walbury Hill? * * * Revisited 9 August 2014. Trig in good condition, metal cap missing, concrete plug present, some of the concrete render to the trig has come off. There were water troughs next to the trig, with disgusting dark green water in it with algae, and a brick covered reservoir nearby. And a dead bird on the ground next to the water troughs. * * * Revisited with the beautiful Mrs. on 5 December 2017.

Good views from roundabouts, and a feeling of being 'aloft'Lots of bits of burnt out vehicle spoilt the ambience a bit. It even looks like a fire adjacent to the pillar has caused lamination.

Why do so many pillars seem to have daft names? This should be Walbury Hill. The trig is set back from the escarpment so the views are not great from the trig itself, though this is good walking country with good views around. It gets very busy up on the Downs here and New Years Day was no exception. The summit is a small plateau and field. Views from the track along the edge of the Downs to the north are great. Berkshire's highest point. Weather cold but sunny.

An easy to access trig point and the highest point in Berkshire. When I visited there was a BBC lorry up here, acting as a relay station from the racecourse. There were also amateur radio hams with tall ariels. I am surprised one did not interfere with the other they were so close!

After a lunch in Hungerford and on the way to catch a plane to Lisbon. Highest traditional chalk hill, although there are higher downland hills in Herefordshire - that's Silurian though. A van at the top - radio?
