Sits on a raised mound beside the road behind a barbed wire fence. Easiest access via the gate to the Eggardon Hill fort and walk across the field. I choose to go under a wired gate and got a bit muddy. Good condition and great views all round.

Heading west, slight diversion of the A35. At a crossroads of country lanes, pillar clearly visible in field to south west of junction. A few cars pulled up on verge to north east of junction nearest place to park. Excellent all round views. Defaced FB regrettably.

Parking for a few cars at the crossroad. Easily visible from the road but to get to it walk down the road towards the hill fort and enter the field via the gate marked bridleway and then a short walk up to the trig.

Just over barbed wire fence on side of minor road. A slog up the hill on the bike and pretty tricky getting over the fence with cleats. I think there is a gate somewhere but I didn't bother searching.

As others have done I took the path to the NT site at Eggardon Hill and diverted towards the pillar on the way back. The pillar is in good condition and also easily visible from the road. There are great views to be had from here although on the day of my visit the lingering mist put paid to this.

Climbed barbed wire fence to get to trigpoint as we didn't realise there is a gate into the trig field nearer to the fort (SY 54384 94540). Very impressive hill fort, amazing views.

TP is about 20' from road fence but even though the flush bracket is conveniently facing the road, I wasnt able to read the flush bracket number! So I detoured from FP across field to this TP having found a geocache below the magnificent nearby fort ramparts, which are well worth visiting.

We walked on Eggardon Hill and then back to this trigpoint which was surrounded by cows, so I didn't venture into the field. Of more interest was a Clouded Yellow butterfly which also flew into the field.

Located 10m or so in from the roadside, just a barbed-wire fence to negotiate. Close to Eggardon Hill iron age hill fort - which is why it gets a 6. Eggardon Hill is also a HuMP.

The pillar sits on a tumulus within a grass field close to a minor road; it has an asphalt plug and FB S5885. Fine views in most directions of wooded hills and rolling downland. Lyme Bay is to the southwest and the Purbeck Hills can be seen in the distance to the southeast. The nearby hillfort is impressive and a circuit of its ramparts affords fantastic panoramas. The track heading southeast from the fort towards the road was patrolled by a number of butterflies and an enormous dragon or damselfly. Other tumuli and earthworks are scattered across the hill top, much of which is designated a SSSI.

Just been to find the nearby GeoCache and then came back to log the trig. It's in the middle of a luxurious Italian ryegrass field and is accessable via the bridleway if you don't fancy climbing the barbed wire fence off the lane! It has an asphalt plug replacement. No paint. N sighthole open, others closed. Concrete base visible at soil level all round. Lovely views from here, especially S towards the sea.

Beware! I had my car broken into. I came up from Askerswell and passed the TP to park in a layby on the crossroads 100m further on. After visiting and getting an FB photo I returned the camera to my bumbag in the car and went off after a local cache. 20 mins later I returned to discover the side window smashed and the bumbag (with my camera) gone!
