Parked on minor road leading up to this trig point. The no access and cctv sign is very off putting. Walked uphill on track and quickly the trig comes into view along with a horse. Located on a mound and closed off with wire fencing I chose to take a long view photo of this pillar. Footpath sign is clearly visible but the nettles show no evidence of public regular access. An unremarkable trig.

My local trig pillar. Pity it is a slight trespass - never been challenged however. Horses in field but no bother. Apparently the farmer hires out the field at a cost of 1 per horse per day (correct at 18 Jan 2015). Pretty good views.

Walked up from Eldon on the road not the best idea ,very busy. The O.S map shows a path on the eastern edge of the Clat pits but there is a new double fenced path from the road which goes up and round the mound with the trig point on and then across the track to Eldon Blus House. The mound with the trig on is fence off and full of horses.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 13th November 1947 costing 7.2s.3d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NZ42/T22 in 1948. Recomputed as same in 1989. Levelled for height in 1965. Last maintained by the OS in April 1986. SITE VISIT: Parked on wide verge by farm buildings, east side of road to south from Old Eldon at NZ246273. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces 303 (NW). All sight holes open, innards blocked with debris. Mixed view. This area doesn`t come across as overly friendly with the no access / CCTV warning signs and a track record of people stalkers with notepads. Managed to avoid any of these local notebook waving buffoons. To save them scanning the CCTV footage I have uploaded a photo of myself at the trig.

I parked on the road and walked down the farm drive detouring to the pillar which is situated on a small hillock. Pillar is in good condition except for a missing plug. Reasonable views from this slightly raised location.

I initially used the footpath to the South East to get near. Problem is that the path goes through a house garden, and I was then followed by a chap with a notebook. He shouted at me for crossing a ploughed field, and then tried to keep up with me as I returned to the car, and was writing down my vehicle number. I explained what I was doing, and he explained he had just been burgled. He obviously thought I was mad. Maybe.

A sneaky walk up this farm track and quick hop over the fence brings you to the hillock with the trig on top. The was a pull-in for a car about 250 meters down the road to the west but for some reason this tarmaced lay-by looked in the process of baing dug up. I passed a pretty sorrowful looking horse tethered up next to the track.
