Low cloud prevented what I imagined would have been great views. Having just returned from a boat trip to Loch Corusk I had been hoping for a lingering look back to the Cuillins, but the mist had rolled in and visibility was no more than about 400 yards.

Glorious spot and one of the best views of the holiday. Trig itself easy to get to from the minor road crossing the peninsula. Superb looming views of the mountains with the small isles resplendent under blue skies. Over to the little Marilyn of Ben Meabost next for even more sublime views and feelings.

Drove down to elgol with a view to sailing out to loch coruisk but all sailing was cancelled due to ihe stormy weather.However i bagged the trig easily from the road which is in vgc just got back before the storm blew in.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 11th August 1957 costing £33.1s.9d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NG24/47 within the Skye block during 1958. Levelled for height also in 1958. Last maintained by the OS in May 1978. SITE VISIT: Approached from west. Public car park opposite village hall at NG519135. Walked unclassified road to high point then beeline to trig. Open grazing top. Column in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces southwest, ~227°. Vented through SW and NE sight holes, innards filled with debris. Full 360° panoramic view includes: Blaven, Beinn na Caillich, Sgurr Na Coinnich, Beinn Na Seamraig, Ben Sgriol, Ladhar Bheinn, Beinn Bhuidhe, Carn A' Ghobhair, Rois-Bheinn, Caorach, Ben Resipol, Ben Hiant, Ben More (Mull), Meall nan Con, An Sgurr (Eigg), Beinn Airein (Muck), Askival, Orval (Rhum), Carn A`Ghaill (Canna), Bruach Na Frithe.

Had a walk up from the village shop cafe whilst waiting for the 15:30 boat ride out to Loch Coruisk, a nights wild camping being on the cards, then back on the following mornings 11:45 boat. picked up the adjacent geocache too.

Located east of Elgol on a mound 120m from the minor road that runs to Glasnakille. Good views here into the heart of the Cuillin mountains. Pillar, a standard truncated square pyramid, is in good condition.

Lovely white-painted pillar, found after a visit to Elgol, a marvellously isolated spot with a school on the beach! How cool is that! Pillar easy access just off mountain road. No plug and sightholes closed. Concrete base exposed about 2" all round. Wonderful views over the Cuillens and coastal Skye. Great spot!
