Too many people about to allow a quick on foot visit. Got told off by a birder for getting out of the car just to get the binoculars off the back seat!

National Nature Reserve. Signage prohibits access; 550m walk along a good vehicle track to trig on edge of a drainage channel. Pillar in good condition, has a 'BSM' style FB; top cap missing, asphalt plug; all sight holes open. 360deg views across flat marshland. Sheppey was once 3 islands: Elmley, Sheppey and Harty, each island has a trig pillar.

Contented with viewing from gate, as notice bars access due to wildlife reserve and this is the breeding season.

Parked at gate (which has sign saying no entry, wildlife sanctuary, in small letters) and walked along track, which leads to some sort of pump-house) to trig. It must be 500 metres at least, not the 100 metres as MCL says. Tarmac plug.

Located in the Nature Reserve next to a dyke, this is a very isolated place for the south east of England, made to feel worse today with a bitter wind. Pillar is in good condition, and appears to be used by the cows as both a scratching post and a Bovine Convenience (see Image)

Not to be confused with a famous brand of cream substitute, this pillar is in the middle of a bird sanctuary, at the side of a track that is closed to vehicles, yet quite walkable. Located 100 yards or so beyond the barrier gate right next to a river/stream/waterway of some description this location has got to be one of the most remote and desolate locations in the southeast of England. Even the birds seem to have abandoned it!
