This is an odd one to give a 'score' to. The walk in from the North is great, and we made a slightly circular walk of it staying on the ROW past Murton Old Farm on the way back. Really enjoyed the walk there and back, I was mystified about the plantations until reading the explanations below, thanks for the info! However the TP is as said before buried in hedge and undergrowth, almost buried by the humungous compost heap and offers no views at all, and you wonder what views it might ever have originally afforded? Enjoy the walk there, the TP is simply a tick off your list I'm afraid!

Adjacent heap just about gone (fertilizer of some sort). JCB telehandler parked on the concrete pad nearby with the keys in the ignition obviously a trusting lot. Took in the pillar on the way past on the Castle Eden cycleway, average pillar and location.

Walked from Reddings Hill via Murton Blue Houses. Pillar is between a hedge (pruning advisable), & a large soil heap. No views, but good views from top of heap - goodness knows what is in the heap, it is littered with bits of rubbish.

The Trig Took some finding today, Trig is behind large compost heap and buried in the undergrowth! Watch out for the barbed wire!

Long slog from the lane, and then difficult to find, by an earth mound, buried in rough hedge. Willow bio crop and windmills nearby. During business trip to Sedgefield

Eventually found just showing its top in a large clump of nettles protected by a barbed wire fence and hiding behind a huge pile of soil improver - looking at the amount of shredded plastic in it it probably came from landfill. No cap but otherwise in good condition. Pillar is sited within a huge willow farm, being grown for biomass combustion.

From Hurworth Burn Car Park walk along Castle Eden Walkway to NZ40750 31550 pathwaygo left up steps right over stile walked round field edge to large stacks of chopped up wood cross over track and fence to trig very pleasant walk on a fine day

Approached from NNW. Public car park, north side of unclassified road at NZ409333. Followed the Castle Eden Walkway (former railway line) southwards to NZ407315 then east and south following mapped RoWs to trig. On an overgrown boundary line ~20m east of track. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces ENE, compass reading 76. Vented through SE sight hole. No view due to surrounding foliage, high crops and nearby cowp.

County Durham. We followed the Castle Eden Walkway from Hurworth Burn Reservoir on a warm spring afternoon. The pillar is next to two large compost heaps but there is a fair view of Teesside and the hills of the North York Moors beyond. The plug is missing.

Walked in from Hurworth Burn Reservoir carpark along public footpath off Castle Eden Walkway. Trig not so grand in situation as its name suggest as it's next to a large dump of farm waste. Quiet warm afternoon, willow being grown as a major crop in this area.
