Best to park at Dibden car park and walk through the wood and over the common to this trig. Although it is not far from the road there is really no place to park. The road is busy and if you are caught parking on the verges you can get fined.

9/13 on a New Forest trigbagging weekend. This on is difficult to park at. Road very busy with ditches and mounds. Managed to park up the road on a small flat part of verge. Trig roadside. Trig is in good condition with spider and FB intact.

This Trig is just off the B3054, about one mile South of the Hythe Bypass roundabout at Dibden Purlieu. The pillar is on the right hand side of the road coming from this direction and about 50 metres into the heath. Camouflaged slightly by gorse bushes but still easy enough to spot if you're going slowly.

Walking the Solent Way from Beaulieu to Hythe, I noticed the trigpoint on the map. Quite easily found amongst the gorse bushes.

Driving along the B3054 from Dibden Pirlieu to the Royal Oak, you will see the trig about halfway along on the right-hand side. There is a bit of gorse surrounding the trig, but it is easy to get around. Views across the Forest and towards Fawley.

"Hill Top"??? I think almost every other trig pillar on the database deserves that name more than this one!! Roadside-ish trig sitting in the gorse in a particularly flat stretch of the New Forest. Parking involved pulling into the side of the road and switching on my hazard lights. Road was not as underused as Google Streetview had me believe...

HISTORY: Pillar completed sometime around November 1939, cost not on record. Computed as secondary triangulation station SU31/19 during 1942. Levelled for height to class 1 precision at secondary standards in 1959. Last maintained by the OS in 1989. SITE VISIT: OS passive station. Parked private driveway at SU40430447 and walked NNW through burnt gorse where the trig comes into sight. Replacement asphalt cap, apart from that, vgc. All sight holes open. Flush bracket facing S, 360 degree burnt-heathland views.

Final trig on a walk from Lyndhurst. The trig is set in heathland that is typical of the area but is slightly spoilt by the proximity of a busy-ish road (by New Forest standards) and Fawley oil refinery.

Why is the New Forest called that? New Heath would be a better description. Nice that there is a 40MPH limit here as makes cycling nicer. Very average Trig with not much in way of views (because its so low and flat around here). Best bit was seeing the E-type Jag on way to next trig!

Roadside parking possible approx 100m N of pillar, but verge narrow and road quite busy so care required. Pillar approx 75m in from road, in large clumps of gorse, but standing free of the prickly stuff. Cap missing, asphalt plug (looks new - but this is a passive stn so maybe the OS do maintain them); all sight holes open. Minor cracks extending short distance down from top of pillar. No views but Fawley chimneys can be glimpsed over the gorse.

There’s nowhere close by to park for this one. The verges are narrow and there’s a drainage ditch close to the edge of the road. I parked nearly half a mile away to the north and walked back. The pillar is 50 yards or so from the road and surrounded by gorse bushes. The pillar is in generally good condition although the centre plug has been replaced by asphalt. There’s no views to speak of, only the aforementioned gorse bushes. I spotted the ‘offset marker’ noted by other visitors but at the time, I didn’t know what it was.

I like the name as its rather flat hereabouts. Typical New forest heathland with a lot of gorse in vicinity of pillar. Nice views though of Fawley refinery flare stacks! Very weathered coat of white paint on pillar. Plug missing, asphalt filled. GPS plate.

Out running across the heathland and paused here to catch my breath and note the trigpoint. Must have driven past this thousands of times in my short life. Always best to visit trigs on foot rather than the easy motorised way. My first trig gained whilst running.

I especially designed my early morning walk route to swing by this one. I must have passed this one a thousand times and never noticed it before. You have to know the new forest to love it. There were dozens of small heath and common blue butterflies around. lovely.

Is his book of "Rural Rides" he wrote: "Never was a more barren tract of land than these seven or eight miles... a poorer spot than this New Forest there is not in all England; nor I believe, in the whole world."
