Whether I should or whether I shouldn't I chose the drive to and from option for this one - totally unhindered. Still there and remains in a good condition.

Not really fond of Roadside TPs, usually I combine Trig Pointing with some good walking exercise. And there's nothing to say you can't park just off the A99 and walk the 2 km or so up the good gravel track to 'Crow Hillock'. However drove all the way up to this one - no niap, no enag...

Log #20. Drove right up to trig, bit of a bone-rattler in my wee Corsa. Trig is elevated on a plinth, and the cap appears to be covered in paint. [ExP-20/MiP-0/BM-0]

HISTORY: Pillar completed 31st August 1951 costing £19.13s.6d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station ND25/T9 in 1952. Leveled for height in 1954. Last maintained by the OS in June 1981. OS Archive incorrectly has FB No. S6543. SITE VISIT: Approached from southeast. Parked on NW side of road opposite junction at ND355635. Continued on foot NW along mppaed track until trig was reached. Open moor, to south side of track. Pillar on raised plinth and in good condition. Spider retains original OS centre cap with shallow engraved letters. Flush bracket faces northeast ~35°. Vented through NW sight hole. Full 360° open outlook.

Approached all the way along the lane in the car, easy access and easy to find. Perched on concrete plinth beside the track, surrounded by heather moorland. Plug intact, but covered in paint, good condition.

On the side of a just-about-motorable track from the A99. On a huge concrete base about 18" high. Original plug with slightly-indented letters [which have been filled in]. No paint. W sighthole open, others closed. Wonderful views to the sea in the east and over the floe country.

Set in the desolate wilderness which is Caithness, it looks as though the pillar has been raised at some point, is there any way of finding out?
