On the descent from Merrick. Approached from feint boggy trod leaving forestry road due N of pillar. Had to divert off the trod to visit the trig. Returned to trod which eventually led to the Bruce's Stone car park.

First stop en-route to Merrick. Left the path at NX 4156 8103 and took a direct route to it over steep and very rough ground. Pillar constructed without a FB. Retains original top cap, raised lettering with what seems to be a casting defect as some letters flush, other raised. Top screed badly broken up with some underlying concrete also degrading. E sight hole open; N closed; S & W plugs both degrading. 360deg panorama with haze restricting views today.

The easiest way to do this would be to double back from the track above Culsharg instead of heading straight up from the Merrick path.

Missing flush bracket, stunning views in all directions. Concrete mix contains stones and pebbles, not weathering too well. Spider and cap intact.

Took the vague path from the Bruce's Stone car park up through the emerging bracken. Lost the path near the edge of the felled trees before picking it up again. A short diversion off the path across the top to the trig.

I had a photo of this TP along with Merrick but couldn'y identify it. Stupid as If I had used "nearby trig points" link, I would have got it no bother. I then found it , labelled in my Flickr albums with the grid ref. I had posted it on the FB site thinking it might have been Suie Hill and asking for help . no takers.

Grueling 18 mile route - Craiglee, Craignaw, Craig Neldricken, Craignairny, Dungeon Hill, Mullwharchar, Merrick, Benyellary, Eschoncan - but oh so more satisfying than those low level field trigs. Eschocan pillar on Merrick fell race route - amazed to find way marked precarious path right over edge down to car park at NX415803

9 mile walk, walked normal way from Glen Trool over Benyellary to Merrick trig, then on way down walked over Bennan and Fell of Eschoncan trig back to car, lovely clear and sunny, spectacular views over wilderness in all directions, we've came back to Scotland several times since.
