Got as far as 2nd gate from roadside, deterred by bunch of heifers quite inquisitive. Hedge overgrown so pillar not visible from gateway.

9.5 mile run there and back from Shildon. Over the gate by the roadside, across the field, over another gate and 20 yards or so further up the next field in the hedge. (Second attempt, as previous attempt, looked in the wrong field!)

Tricky to park, couple of awkward gates to negotiate (with a dog), TP buried deep in hedge. Not one that will linger long in the memory.

Trig by hedge - hedge is starting to take over! Pillar is quite mossy& has very minor top corner damage. Re-visit (original visit not logged) - cycling day out - no cattle this time.

Hadn't set out to come here after Mayland Farm TP, but decided to be blown back to Durham instead of trying to ride into the wind, and this was a ride-by. Another uninspiring specimen like Mayland, only hidden in a hedge. At least no nettles.

Approach same of The Cyclist, heavy rain set in so did not hang around. Trig protected by wild roses.

Accessed by gate from lane to West of where power lines cross. This was padlocked both sides and topped with barbed wire. Once over, diagonally right across grass field, through open gate and in view by hedge.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 9th September 1947 costing £7.9s.0d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NZ42/T25 in 1948. Levelled for height in 1965. Last maintained by the OS in April 1986. SITE VISIT: Area seemed potentially contentious with barbed wire wrapped around padlocked gate. Low profile approach taken, all quiet and without incident. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces 172° S along hedgeline. Presumed vented through buried east sight hole as others are plugged. Views limited by high boundary hedges.

Cold wet day. Relatively easy to find, but had to park on roadside and then cross boggy fields to reach unremarkable pillar with plug missing.

County Durham. Boggy fields following the recent heavy rain, hampered progress to this trig, despite its proximity to the road. Pylon line close to the trig detracts from location. Plug missing.
