En-route to funeral of Peter Stevenson, great walker, good friend to all, so felt it appropriate to visit some of the "gone but not forgotten" pillars in west Cardiff. GPS took me to pavement at high point of Firs Avenue, with replacement pillar (Ty-Bronna) 45m away to west behind a line of houses.

OS records this destroyed September 1963, most likely when the estate was built. It would have been somewhere in the road opposite #58 Firs Ave. The 1965 1:10k map shows the trig along with Ty-Bronna and no housing.

The site where the pillar stood is now on the pavement of Firs Avenue in the western Cardiff hilltop suburb of Pentrebane. From the site there is a glimpse of a distant hill top to the north, otherwise all that can be seen are nearby houses and the egg shaped Pentrebane water tower.
