Walked via Fan Frynych, Beacons Way over Fan Llia then approached Fan Fawr via the reservoir road. Found out that this was private. Signs saying no access to hill. Got stopped by farmer but he gave me a lift on his quad bike to where the open access started. A long hot slog up to this trig point from the southwest. The only access from this side is via the bridleway leaving road at SN935143 and crosses footbridge at SN942163. DO NOT USE PRIVATE ROAD TO YSTRADFELLTE RESERVOIR from SN938140.

this is a CHEAT,post, my only non visit post, as a howl of public humiliation and embarrassment to myself, to rectify it!! I climbed Fan Fawr from Storey arms on 3rd April in glorious sunshine. Snowy summit, brisk icy east wind. Back in York and looking at my 1:50k landranger I'm amazed to notice a trig symbol 600m away on the SW shoulder. How can it be that I didn't know?? I had only the Outdoor leisure sheet 12 on the day. I didn't notice it. Went back to look at it now to see if trig symbol was missing but no. There is a yellow background colour so it doesn't stand out as much but considering I sought out another trig pillar to the north specifically, on my way back to Brecon and visited another to the north with friends in the afternoon, there's no excuses, just a temporary blindness. I blame my eyesight. I was just focused on getting to the marilyn summit but would've detoured out there had I been aware of it. Bemusing, embarrassing. Will have to try and correct my folly perhaps by taking my son to bag the marilyn at end of July/beginning August. I expect I could even have seen it from the summit had I been aware to look!!

Lovely high level walk in the Brecons today (but shorts in April? That was a bit optimistic). From the Storey Arms we bagged the Nuttall, Y Gyrn, first, then back to the Storey Arms and up the hill to Fan Fawr. Staying high level across to Fan Frynych before heading east down the hill and picking up the Taf Trail back to the car. A lovely sunny day, Storey Arms car parked packed to overflowing but we didn't see a soul - they were all going up to Pen y Fan - brilliant! The trig has some cracks appearing lower down, otherwise looks in good condition.
