A steep climb after walking from Fan Frynych. We didn't see anyone else on the mountain, even though there were thousands on Pen y Fan on the opposite side of the A470. There is a summit cairn and then the trig point is a few more minutes walk away to the SW. Great views, it was a hot sunny day. No clear path from Fan Frynych and must be very boggy in wet weather if walking between the two. Steep walk down to the Storey Arms car park. If you want to have a mountain all to yourself, then this would be perfect!

this is a CHEAT,post, my only non visit post, as a howl of public humiliation and embarrassment to myself, to rectify it!! I climbed Fan Fawr from Storey arms on 3rd April in glorious sunshine. Snowy summit, brisk icy east wind. Back in York and looking at my 1:50k landranger I'm amazed to notice a trig symbol 600m away on the SW shoulder. How can it be that I didn't know?? I had only the Outdoor leisure sheet 12 on the day. I didn't notice it. Went back to look at it now to see if trig symbol was missing but no. There is a yellow background colour so it doesn't stand out as much but considering I sought out another trig pillar to the north specifically, on my way back to Brecon and visited another to the north with friends in the afternoon, there's no excuses, just a temporary blindness. I blame my eyesight. I was just focused on getting to the marilyn summit but would've detoured out there had I been aware of it. Bemusing, embarrassing. Will have to try and correct my folly perhaps by taking my son to bag the marilyn at end of July/beginning August. I expect I could even have seen it from the summit had I been aware to look!!
