Not a great forecast but clear summits until Yr Allt which were the important ones, and only rain on the last one. Some great views and scenery. Sad to see a lot of damage around the base of this trigpoint.

Parked at a forest entrance and the start of the well defined track on the Heol Senni road just after Crai Reservoir, the weather was awful, not cold but the cloud cover was very low indeed, we followed the track, what 3 words directions and OS map to the top of the path and then went off piste to try and locate the trig, we did find it but conditions were poor, after sitting in a hollow with a cup of tea the weather cleared and made the whole event well worth the trek. The pillar is painted red with Welsh graffiti, Cymru am Byth and Yma o Hyd (which means Still Here) the pillar is damaged and heavily corroded at the base, but to me this helps to display how the structure was constructed, the spider and flush brackets are still in place and the sight holes are open but the centre plug is missing, the views at the top and over Fan Gihirych are breath-taking as they are all around.

This trig is sadly now in very poor condition. It has a moat around it now, which I just about managed to jump across! Nice walk up the forest track from the minor road opposite Cray reservoir. Walked 11km in total, with 333m of ascent. Eventually you need to leave the track and follow the visible footpath to the summit. Great views of Fan Nedd too, both trigs could easily be combined into a single walk if desired. Very windy in early April, lots of sheep and cows around. Wonderful views of the Black Mountain range.

We parked at the car park/picnic spot just north of Blaen-Llia, walking first over Fan Llia, then Fan Nedd (the first trig) via the Maen Llia stone. On to Fan Fraith and finally Fan Gihirych. We retraced our steps for the return leg as far as Bwlch y Duwynt and then contoured round to the west and south of Fan Nedd back to the car park. A satisfying 11.5 mile trog that knocked 4 peaks and 2 trigs off our list. Pillar is damaged, lumps of concrete missing, also surrounded by its own moat when we visited. Views were outstanding, as is expected in the Beacons when the cloud isn't down. The Fforest Fawr is one big private estate with a very limited number of permmisive paths across it, no access is allowed during the lambing season.

I was pleased that my 500th find was up a Welsh mountain, though it would have been even nicer if the cloud had cleared which it did do when I visited the sister peak of Fan Fraith some 20 minutes later. There is a boggy most around this damaged trig.

My 2rd visit to the trig - don't recall it being as damaged on my previous visit - can't find my photos to confirm this.

Logging this retrospectively from 2010. I think this day was the only day I have visited two trigs on the same walk, the other one being Fan Nedd. One of my best ever days in the Beacons, I remember it very well. Parked at the top of the zig-zag road up from Heol Senni.
