(3092) Followed Conquest Drove down to the very bottom and parked at the houses - plenty of room. Farm track from there to the pillar. Not a PRoW but well used by folks. Pillar sits between the track and the field edge. Condition is good and still sporting its original centre cap - indented lettering. Wide farmland views at the location, and a nice trig to end the day on. Pillar history: Built on the 22nd of February 1952, at a cost of £20 8s 0d. Last maintained by the OS in May of 1984.

Third, after Horsey Hill and Farcet Manor, on bike ride from boat tied at Whittlesey. Riding into wind along Conquest Drove and then walk along a stony drove to pillar. Continued on drove to Crow Tree Farm then along to Tebbitt’s Bridge and up (private) track to Pondersbridge. Straight ride into wind up a Friday afternoon busy road back to Whittlesey. Fenland - an intriguing landscape.

My second bag of the day. Drove a couple of miles down a long fenland road that seems so isolated even the fly tippers haven't discovered it. Parked up by the Barn at the end and walked the 400m or so along the track. Dog barking when I parked up but otherwise no sign of life so just walked ahead without asking permission. Views over the flatlands were better than I expected and a lorry drove past me as I approached the pillar to add some excitement.

Diverted from a journey from Northumberland to Suffolk to visit the area I briefly lived in, age 7 until I was 10. I remember me and my mates cycling along dusty lanes between beet fields, the towering chimneys of the brick works, miles of conveyor belts trundling the dug clay across the landscape...most of those fields we roamed 50 years ago are now housing estates, or Amazon depots, or dual carriageway road systems with roundabouts every half a kilometre...pity poor Peterborough...Although either Horsey Hill Fort or Farcet Manor Farm would be the closest TP to where I grew up in the (then) hamlet of Orton Waterville, given how awful the development (‘progress’) has been the idea of going back to see the old house was abandoned I just visited the 3 TPs closest by. For views of those great brick chimneys and endless flat fields, this TP gets top marks for reminding me of my childhood.
