FB Number: S5555  Condition: Good  Score: 6/10

As per previous logs: even though this trig was only a couple of feet from the roadside, this was a difficult find because it was COMPLETELY obscured by overgrowth! We drove in the SW direction along the B3046 and parked just past the house "Northgate" at the layby on the left side of the road (as you're travelling SW). Then we walked back down the hill towards the trig, past the house "Northgate", past the private driveway that had 2 outbuildings and a wooden gate. The left gate post had a sign that said "private property keep out" and the right gate post had a sign that said "private drive". There was also an old M-reg white Peugeot van parked there, it looked like a refrigerated van. The trig was buried deep in the hedge just to the left of this driveway. We had to part the overgrowth and search hard for the trig. Eventually we found it, then put our gardening tools to work clearing the overgrowth around it. Broke one handle of my gardening shears! The trig was up an embankment, then a couple of feet into the hedge that was completely overgrown and extremely difficult to get to. Eventually managed to make an opening just barely big enough for me to squeeze my arm into to take the necessary photos. Trig was in good condition, missing centre cap. FB was facing NE, i.e. on the left side of the trig as you look at it from the roadside, a lot of moss was around the FB. Tips for future visitors: there is better parking further up the road (i.e. in the SW direction, away from the trig) on the right side of the road at a metal gate with a sign "No Public Access". Or alternatively it will be much better to park on the road "Broadmere". Gardening tools are a must if you are to find this trig and get to it! The traffic thunders along this road really fast, so beware! I suggest you bring someone to act as a look-out for traffic.

Before chopping: completely obscured, impossible to spot
After chopping: now you see it!

Pillar in generally good condition; cap missing, no plug; 3 sight holes sealed, 4th blocked by tree root so unable to determine status. Extensive views over Basingstoke to N.
