It's not often you come across a trigpoint close to a churchyard, so an extra point for that. Some decent views out from this highpoint. I stopped for some lunch in the churchyard while out on a bike ride.

From Wantage, it was tricky to find the B4494 with so many new roads being built around the town. From there about half way to Newbury, signpost to left, east to Farnborough. About fifty metres before road bends to right opposite a house is a small flight of steps up the bank on the south side of the road. Through there, into the field behind the houses, pillar comes into view. Easy access, did wonder if was in someone’s back garden looking at the map. Fabulous views to the south. Noisy dog in garden nearby but a couple of friendly chaps saw me taking photographs, kneeling by the flush plate, said they wondered if I was praying. Replied yes, a bit of that now and again.

This pillar is on a small patch of land between a church, some back gardens, and some paddocks. Had a lovely chat with two beautiful horses on the way to this one, who were quite insistent that they didn't want a trigpointer in their field, footpath or no! Farnborough is an extremely beautiful village with friendly locals, but an awful lot of horses! There are a lot worse ways to spend a Saturday morning.

We parked in front of the church, then walked through the church yard, through the graveyard and through a gate at the back of the church yard. The trig was just a bit further on, behind the back gardens of some houses. Trig was in very good condition, original metal cap, lots of bird poo on top of the trig. Lovely little church!

On West Ilsley-Farnborough-Catmore walk. Nicely situated behind All Saints Church which is worth a visit with its Norman nave, although I much preferred the humble country church at Catmore. As I left Farnborough I noticed a worrying sign at a farm which stated: 'Minimal Diseases Pigs - Keep Out' (makes a change from: 'Beware - Dogs').
