Follow the faint path, it's a straight line to the trig. It would be extremely difficult in cloud or mist. About 15 minute hike from the style. Plug is missing. Base is eroding.

Didn't bother to follow a return bearing back accurately to the path to Laddaw and missed it, such that once on it my mate turned to walk to Chew Res while I correctly strolled on to Laddaw. And this was in clear daylight, it would have been a mess in fog. Peat bogs all over, but I've been on the moors for quite a few years now and it seems to me they are a lot drier. From Crowden along the Pennine Way to Laddow Rocks. Where the PROW breaks left across the moors towards Chew Reservoir I headed straight across Featherbed Moss to the pillar. It was surprisingly easy going as ground the was dry and the grass wasn't particularly tussocky. Pillar briefly came into view as I approached a fence but was then hidden until within a few hundred metres. As I was to discover later, had I followed the Chew Reservoir PROW until it crossed this fence then the pillar would have been obvious from quite a distance !! Pillar itself is in good condition although the cap is missing and base is very exposed. Didn't notice the graffiti until I'd returned home and read other reports on here. Nothing but gently undulating moorland views in every direction.

Careful navigation coming up from Ogden Clough leads straight to the trig across the open & exposed moor. This must be one of the most lonely & isolated trigs in England, forming a rare landmark in an otherwise featureless landscape.
