From the power stn, broadly followed the power lines up the hill over rough heathery ground; small detour to the SW for the 'canyon'. Pillar doesn't appear to be at top of the hill. No cap/plug; rear sight hole open. Views not noted.

vgc, no cap or plug, tussocky heathery summit surrrounded by fairly dense spruce: best way from track is from ESE via power lines. I approached from WNW, driving first half mile then walking from locked gate. Probably easier from Sandbank via power lines.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 29th June 1956 costing 38.19s.5d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NS29/T48 duribg 1957. Levelled and verified for height to Class 1 precision, tertiary standards in 1959. Last maintained by the OS in July 1968. SITE VISIT: Overall approach from southeast, final ascent from southwest. Small car park at NS161797, also used for Bishops Seat. Follow mapped forest tracks to NS149801 then follow gap cut eastwards through trees to unplanted summit plateau. Dark mossy pillar in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces ESE, compass measurement 113. Vented through back sight hole. Fine views in most directions.
