Stopped on the narrow road and hopped over a low fence and a short walk over a frozen stubble field. Some sort of fake wreath at the base partially obscured by the snow. Decent views north.

An easy find this just off the quiet Barrelwell road with the old Forfar to Brechin railway slightly to the north. The pillar is set between a field boundary on the northern side of the road; cap in place with two sight holes open, the other two hidden & no tools with me to dig around. There remains some kind of flower memorial here in front of the FB plate within the tufty grass.

Nettles & barbed wire meant I didn't quite reach this one. Certainly no easy way into either field from the road, even the one gate I found nearby had barbed wire along the top & many nettles protecting it. Intended to return in the afternoon with more resolve but didn't. A disappointment

En-route for Sunday lunch with aunt in Brechin, shoes and clothing sadly inadequate for dealing with nettles, thistles and barbed wire fence.

Trig pillar in good condition. Spider retains OS centre cap with engraved font. Flush bracket faces WSW. At the edge of an arable field. For reasons known only to themselves, somebody had planted plastic flowers in front of the pillar. Visited and photographed 19/08/1998, GRP.
