A 2 car point to point walk taking in 3 Trig Points, this was the second. Left my van at Kettlewell and then we drove to Halton Gill in Ceri’s 4wd and set off from there, then followed the whole line of the ridge between Littondale and Wharfedale back to Kettlewell via Horse Head, Firth Fell and Middlemoor Pasture. Not the best weather, views very limited. Very boggy underfoot in places. Nonetheless an excellent days walking. With Lucy Frost and Ceri Evans.

Cocked this one up. Set off from Litton up a wide track signposted Buckden bridleway. Chatting away, not paying attention to direction of route, assuming the track took us all the way to the top of the ridge. But then the track came to an abrupt end and a belated check on the map revealed we were on MIddle Moor. We didn't have much choice but to make a steep drop to a stream and climb up the other side. Not all was lost though as the stream-Crystal Beck- was absolutely lovely. After finding the pillar we dropped down to Litton the way we should have ascended with glorious views up Littondale on a sunny summer evening.

Firth Fell involved the steepest climb of this walk from Litton and is the summit of the walk also. Visited whilst passing nearby with my walking group, The Irregulars, LDWA. We were using the path from Buckden to Litton and the pillar is normally highly visible from the ridge gateway and it is just a matter of going eastward along the wall to reach the pillar. Today the weather conditions were appalling - gale force winds and horizontal rain so only a dedicated bagger would have detoured; the nearby cache might have been the deciding factor. Anyway, pillar is in good condition. Not prepared to get my camera out in such conditions so no pictures. Re-visited 09/09/12 in glorious weather so took the opportunity to take some pictures this time.
