Rang Rempston estate office, and was given permission to visit trig. Drove to Vitower House passing the 'nodding donkeys ' we were shown the the gate and found our way to trig. Good find! The wreath is still attached to the tree remembering the airmen that were killed there, back down the track.

Staying on Round Island, kayaked across and walked up to the pillar located on a small wooded hill with plenty of fern and bramble. Original cap in place, lightly indented lettering. RHD side sight hole open, rear plug has degraded approx 90% so is effectively also open. Shame there were no views.

Such an interesting area - walked from Wytch Farm after phoning for permission to visit. Lots of oil well activity hereabouts with 'nodding donkeys' in full nod. Strange to think that Wytch Farm is the largest onshore oilfield in Western Europe and in such an area of outstanding beauty. Near to Vitower House I noticed a wreath attached to a tree remembering 9 US airmen killed here on D-day when their plane crashed into the woods. They'd run out of fuel. On my return, near this memorial, I was privileged to see a Cream-Spot Tiger Moth in beautiful colourful close up basking in the sun. Also saw all three woodpecker species during this visit. What a wonderful 'nature reserve' this is. Pillar fine; no change since recent reports.

Contacted Rempstone Estate office in Cow Lane Wareham (01929 552 666) who gave permission to visit the site, including the FB 10421 on Rempstone Hall. All intact. bluebells, roe deer, friendly cat (in house yard) and a water tank nestling almost on the summit of the hill. The views would have been spectacular before the trees grew up.

Essential to get prior permission. You have to pass thru' the grounds of Vitower House which is occupied by a tenant who will refuse permission. He did give me the phone number of the land owners - Rempstone Estate - 01929 552666 - and I spoke to Janet Gregory who readily granted the necessary permission there and then.

This feels like the most remote trig in S England - and only for the enthusiasts judging by the list of previous visitors! Excellent condition, metal cap indented lettering, s s/hole open and w partially so. Rather too surrounded by scrub but adjacent views are spectacular. Re access: Drove in - no answer at house so visited trig, only to meet the residents returning on our return to the car. The house is nothing to do with the trig, which is on land belonging to the Rempstone Estate, who are very happy to allow access if you call them first on 01929 552 666. Apparently the site is also much favoured by artists, but the tenant farmer gets very cross if he meets you and you haven't asked permission first - must therefore be worth a phone call!

Long walk in from wytch farm,Glaslyn had the right idea I think, you can drive all the way to the house or even to the end of the drive where you can park with no problems.

From the moment I saw this on the map thougt it would be fun! Walked in three weeks ago but turned back by oil workers, this time decided to drive to house and ask, perfectly viable as good track. No one at home at house so wandered over for photos. Fantastic isolated position with great views, a unique location .Pillar great condition and protected from worst of elements by trees.

Very remote location, on top of the largest oilfield in Europe according to one of the workers.I followed Mick and Shane's directions, no problem. The trig point was almost covered in ferns and took a bit of finding. Limited views. There was quite a lot of activity on the tracks with the installation of a new pipeline taking place.

We parked at the end of the yellow road that goes to Witch Farm. The road leading from here heading east is metalled but there are signs saying no access for vehicles apart from Oil Well and Rempstone Estate traffic. We walked along past pine woods and nodding donkeys until we came to the small road that leads down to Vitower House. There is a sign saying Private, but we decided we would ask permission to visit the trig. The track crosses a cattle grid and turns to gravel and eventually arrives at the house. There were three cars parked outside but when I knocked the door there was no answer. Across from the house there is a small metal pedestrian gate that gives access to a path that leads to the trig. We quickly made our visit and walked back past the house and down to the start of the track without seeing another soul, although there were some curious dairy cows in one adjacent field who followed us down the hedgeline. Vitower House is a very remote spot and I doubt if they get many visitors. The trig itself is in good condition but there are no views as it is surrounded by small trees and bracken. Plug with indented lettering.
