Walked across from Gernhill Avenue via Lower and Upper Cote Farms. Upon joining the Kirklees Way I weaved my way around field boundaries passing through open gates (no need to climb any walls) until this one came into view. Incessant noise from M62 below and average views spoilt by nearby mast and proliferation of pylons. Pillar has a significant crack across three faces at bottom of FB level. Three sight holes open and cap replaced with concave metal disc. FB facing ENE. Departed via track from communications mast but found myself penned in by 10ft security gates to the houses at the bottom !! Retraced my steps back up the track and then cut through the woods and over a 5ft stone wall onto the A643. Once on the right side of the security gates I stopped to check my map when a woman in her 4x4 asked if I was lost then proceeded to quiz me on the route I'd just taken. Why do people instantly assume you are lost when you are looking at a map ? I'm checking my map to ensure I DON'T end up lost !!

Parked at the bottom of Cote Lane, then up lane to stone stile into fields to bag trig and then between fences to get as near to the artificial high point of TUMP as practical. This high point looks artificial and made at time of the building of the water treatment plant which it provides shelter for.

Log #92. (257m). Bagged with short detour from hiking section 3 of the Kirklees Way LDP. Followed farm track W from Upper Cote Farm to trig field gate. Crop harvested in field, so beeline from gate to pillar. The trig is damaged, with a crack running across the lower half, as well as the tilt. Looks like it got hit by a tractor. Sunny, hot day. Temp 33c. Visibility excellent. I have to say the views from here are severely spoiled by HVTLs all over the ridge. There are 6 pylons and the lines are a goddamned blight on the beautiful countryside. Plus forests around Fixby Park G.C. obstruct the views S a bit. I,m def getting senile these days, as I realize I haven,t taken photos of the Trig, even though I took photos of the views. Overall, the views are decent. Relatively easy to access and quite visible. I used the Water Board road and went round the perimeter fence to access the field through gap just to north of radio mast. I then followed the edge of the field past the Water Board buildings with the pillar in view throughout. As the field of barley had not been harvested I refrained from trampling down the crop and only got to SE1252819879 (about thirty yards from the pillar). From that distance the pilar looked to be in good condition. Good views across Huddersfield. [Will return after the harvest!]
