Second attempt at this one. Parked nr Gledstone Hall, West Marton and from there followed the (unmarked) ROW through the fields, the ROW cutting across the same field as the Trig is in so no real problems there. A simple thirty minute walk in the heart of Drumlin country. Trig in good condition with original plug. Views good but a little hazy on what was a glorious autumn day.

Pillar in good condition although surrounded by wet watery mud as the local field inhabitants obiously use it as a scratching post. Original plug with indented lettering.

We parked at Swinden Moor Head and walked up from there. Beware of the cow shit in the farmyard - I had it over the top of my boots (very pleasant). Shane and our Jim found a way round the back of the farm buildings avoiding it and insisted I walk up in front because of the smell emanating from my socks! We saw a short eared owl as we approached the trig which was totally unexpected. At the trig there was a young chap repairing the stone wall who gave us a piece of priceless stone masons advice. 'Whenever you pick up a stone' he said. 'it has to go into the wall, because you don't want to be picking it up twice'. He had a very friendly Patterdale / Jack Russell cross with him which I think Shane would have liked to take home with us. Plug with indented lettering.
