Fort Purbrook is now an outdoor activity centre. Have called by a couple of times before when it was closed and another time there was a heavy metal bikers weekend going on. They let me walk up the driveway but asked me not to go up to the pillar. This time the office was open and after asking the assistant if it would be ok to go to the pillar he didn’t know what I was talking about. He called his supervisor. I waited a bit. Then when he came along was very helpful, officially, not allowed. Fantastic views all around. Would have felt more relaxed taking it in if I was unescorted but happy to get this pillar logged. Cap plugged. Otherwise good condition. About three miles to the west Fort Southwick remains a challenge.

Not sure why it’s taken me so long to visit this one, being relatively local, but spurred on by Nekyram’s recent trouble-free visit here I am today. The charming woman in Reception agreed immediately to my request, and after signing in and slipping a dangling visitor notice around my neck I was in. Pillar has asphalt-filled cap; all s/h’s covered by long grass. Superb views of dear old Pompey and out to sea.

Cycled up to some people working in the fort and asked if i could look at the Trig Point. The man said "Even though we are a private place, we cant stop the public from getting access to the Trig. Please just go straight up there and come right back." I assured him that i would. Just a quick note that the Pillar you can see near the West entrance is an old base for an aerial. After the last two I visited were destroyed I am very happy to see this one in fine fettle. Good views as well. Cycling up the hill from Southsea Island doesnt seem as bad as it did 30 years ago!

To Waterlooville to look at a property, so took the opportunity to add some trigs as well. Fort Purbrook totally closed up this afternoon, but trig visible through the main gate. Will have to go back, as the fort is a very impressive structure and the views down over Portsmouth were fine, despite very grey skies. [FB for logging purposes only].

This was trigging Saturday, nothing much was going to stop us from doing this one, a great location. We called the number previously listed here and spoke to the caretaker in the activities office who told us we could come and do our trigging but they shut at 1. Made our way there and took one of the Trig books we have made to sway our mission, Tony the caretaker could not have been more helpful or accommodating, He told us to take our time and feel free to have a look around, so we did, what a fantastic opportunity to go exploring this wonderful location, The trig is in good condition, cap missing and a little short of hight, we guess it has sunk over the years. Thank you so much Tony, you made our day.

Having read other comments I'm not sure whether or not what I could see on top of the fort was the actual trig point, but it certainly looked like one both in shape and size. Unfortunately, with limited time and no grappling hook there was no way I was going to cross the ditch and scale the vertical walls to get there. Misty views of Portsmouth, but too much litter everywhere to get a good score.
