Fantastic views over the Severn and Wye. The trig itself is not visible until you're right on it being hidden behind one of the buildings around the masts. The footpath through the southern edge of Fedw Wood has been obliterated by logging activity and is almost impassable. There's also a No Entry sign if you're coming from the west which isn't really very helpful, especially if you're coming from the east, from the trig.

Parked in lay bye near church and took footpath which heads up from road directly to the two mast. When you get to the mast look for the entrance gate into the mast compound with the brick building inside. To the right of these gates is a steel five barred gate which enters an overgrown track into the wood. Go through this and walk about 10/15 metre and the trig point is hiding on you left next to the compound fence. It is not inside the fence.

The trig is situated next to the fence of a WT Station compound. It stands on a low rampart of a small hill fort in the Wye Valley AONB to the north of Chepstow. The pillar has a metal cap with shallow lettering and has FB s/3344. The hill top was reached by means of footpaths from Penterry Church to the northeast. The path through Fedw Wood was pleasant and the views from the fields on top of Gaer Hill are outstanding. The south west side of the hill looks across to Chepstow Park Wood and down to Chepstow and the River Severn and its bridges. The Mendip Hills and the Cotswold Hills near Bath could be seen in the distance. The north east side of the hill looks over to the wooded slopes of the Wye Valley. A more northerly part of the Cotswold Edge could be seen in the distance. The pillar stands in a partly wooded enclosure and was reached by wading through the bracken and brambles from the adjacent field. The nearby vegetation prevents a view from the trig. A faint cut benchmark survives on the corner of Penterry Church.
