Walked up from Blaenglynolwyn Farm after visiting Drum Ddu first in cold, bright autumnal weather. A lovely place that felt a lot more remote than it is. Trig sits on edge of a steep escarpment giving a full 360deg panorama. Pillar has some substantial damage but remains upright and functional; cap missing, no plug; RHD side sight hole sealed, the other 3 open.

Very pleasent walk up ridge from Doliago Farm campsite, Llanwrthwl (Quiet and a very pleasent place to stay with spotless but basic facilities) SW side of pillar slightly damaged as if grazed by shells. Very fine views, blue skies dotted with cumulus, hot sunshine.

Pillar damaged on W-facing corner. Superb views, especially S down Cwm Chwefru towards the Beacons. Hiked TPs Craig Chwefru and Gorllwyn, then to Gamrhiw. Descended steep hillside just below TP, past Saith-Maen, and gained roadway at Little Pudding Cottage. Road walk back to car in lee of Craig Chwefru. Great walk on a very hot day.

Started at SN958615 where there is room to turn but only space to park one car without blocking the farmer's quad bike access. GR8 walk on a frosty sunny morning with Phil Cooper. Lovely views all around today. Deep summit shelter with narrow access out of the prevailing wind. Then back to col to use quad tracks to continue to Drum Ddu.

Parked at Ty Bach Forestry on the minor road to the south. Too much ice on road to drive further. Walked to the end of the road and continued to the spot marked by standing stone on map. No stone to be seen. Then up to the trig. We then set out for the Gorllwyn trig to the south west. Half way there Mrs Dusty had had enough of the rough conditions so we left the tops by the bridleway following the Chwefri stream. No bridleway or path exists but we got down to the road easily enough. If the conditions had been less frozen we would not of crossed the tops as far as we did. The bogland was frozen solid.

No cap or plug. SW face rough, probably due to defective construction: apparently no deterioration. Heather, below summit, fine view, decent hill, fine eastern aspect. Visited during a 30-mile Ultra, but there are easier ways.
