Parked near spot height 186 to the south near Kellah Burn. Followed the Pennine way to the trig. The stretch which runs north along the fence at Galloping Rigg all the way to the trig is very wet. They have installed a foot bridge across a couple of sections as the bog is bottomless and constantly wet. Returned the same way.

Parked up on the verge on the Gilsland Road just by the junction with the A69. Followed the FP through the farmyard and up the track to join up with the Pennine Way and then followed it south until the pillar came into view and cut across the moorland to it. Nice views all around. We returned along the wall to the style as that was less spongy underfoot, then retraced our steps back to the car. Nice chat with the farmer on the way back through the farmyard. Beer in the Bridge Inn, Gilsland afterwards.

Parked to the south east where the Pennine Way meets the Kellah Burn and followed the Pennine Way north to the TP. By a considerable margin this is by far the wettest, boggiest walk I have ever undertaken. If I am ever asked the question in a general knowledge quiz 'what is the longest man-made waterway in the UK' I will not answer 'the Grand Union Canal' but 'The Pennine Way'. At least this walk has put me off even thinking about doing that challenge FOR GOOD. The views from the TP once reached were pretty decent, esp towards Sewingshield Crags along Hadrian's Wall, but this was not a very enjoyable experience...
