Nice walk up from the parking area near the end of the Churchill Barrier. Fine views around. Pillar in vgc with all fixings in place. Second pillar of the day passing time before visiting Maeshowe.

Quick dash up Glimps Holm from the lay-by (ferry to catch). Some welcoming swoops from the local birds, but all good-natured! All too brief a visit to Orkney and would particularly have liked to climb Ward Hill, but my fellow travellers are non-trigpointers. Hope to return soon.

Small pull-in for couple of cars at ND 4743 9883, SE side road, larger CP closer to Churchill Barrier 3. Short walk across sheep pasture, roadside stock fencing to negotiate. Pillar retians an original centre cap, raised lettering; front sight hole sealed, other 3 open. Extensive views across Scapa Flow.

Good condition pillar standing atop the uninhabited Glimps Holm. Easy access from the little layby beside the Churchill Barrier. Good views all around. FB faces southwest-ish with all sightholes open except southwest-ish. Bolt visible. Cap present with raised lettering.

North and East Sights open with raised but well worn lettered cap - I blame all the bird poo.. a rather obviously sheep and gull island - looked like bird burrows. Worst bit is that it is definitely GLIMPS HOLM not Glims - nice overview of the churchill barrier to the south next to carpark.

Glimps Holm ..fulla bird n sheep poo. :D

Walk up having been over-run by italians at the italian chappel - 3 bus loads within 15mins; you wouldn't have thought they'd be so many italians on this island!!

Easy trig; dull weather, just not very exciting. Unmistakeable location though with Churchill barriers clearly visible from trig.

vgc, metal cap, wide raised well-formed letters - had to shift a lot of the aforementioned bird droppings to verify. Glimps Holm on map. Quick bag from S, fine varied view.

Easy climb from nearby parking. Good views across Scapa Flow. Plug intact. Some bird of prey(?) poo on top of the pillar. Why is this spelt wrong in the OS database? Glimps Holm surely!!
