Was tempted to dock a point for the NT car park's pay machine being out of order, forcing me to use their awful pay by phone service. But that would be unfair. This trig enjoys a truly spectacular view of the Jurassic Coast, and excellent views inland in all directions. Car Park itself is large, and paths to trig are well signed and maintained (although the field between the wood and the hill was a tad squelchy after the night's rain). Steps up the hill make the climb to the top an easy one. An extremely enjoyable bag, as evidenced by the number of tourists present.

Parked in Langdon Hill NT car park after turning south off the A35 about three quarters of a mile west of Chideock. Pleasant walk through shelter of trees to start with. Golden Cap signposted at each path junction. Raining at the time. Exposed to elements on ascent to top of Cap. Good but limited views. Another etched FB. One or two other walkers about.

Very easy to locate and access, just follow the crowds. One of the best trig points there is I think, spoiled only by the number of visitors, but some things you have to share.Previously visited on 22nd Sep 2009, when it was also well populated.

I think Roger and Brisey and I had all visited this before but I hadn't logged it. I visited it as part of my walk around the coast of England and Wales probably in around 1995. It was lovely to make a return visit and to take in the views. A great way to end the day of trig pointing and in good company.

On Litton Cheney Trig Baggers weekend. Parking in Langdon Hill NT car park. Steep walk up man-made steps to top of this rounded little hill. Pillar found in reasonable condition, but several chips out of top edges; sits on large concrete plinth. Cap missing, asphalt plug; LHD side sight hole degrading, other 3 open. Extensive coastal views, a lovely little tump of a hill.

What a contrast after Lyme Regis Golf Links! Cracking views on long walk from Lyme Regis to Bridport. There is a small padlock through one of the hooks. I visited this one in July 1994 but was not trigging at the time.

Resting on the edge of the cliffs, after geocaching and then finding this, we had two ravens land in front of us. We were transfixed and as we were alone and kept quiet the two birds played in front of us for quite a while - what a treat that was.

Misty today but still good views along the Dorset Coast. The pillar has an asphalt plug. If you look hard there are some traces of white paint! The pillar stands on a concrete plinth about 3" above ground level and the area around it is heavily used as this is a great viewpoint, not only for Coast Path walkers but also for those from the nearby car park. Lovely spot!

Warning speed cameras in Chideock. No I have not been snapped. At £4.00 a session Seatown car is expensive. Parked in Chideock and ran up Pettycrate lane, what fantastic name. 19 minutes for the assent and 13 for the dessent. For you youngsters out there this may not be fast. But will you be able to do this at 50 plus? Visited this some time in the distant past but do otn believe in retro bagging. This is the first Trig this year that I haven t been the first Triger here. Lets hear it for the sad and lonely trig. Visit one today. On second thoughts don t. I rather enjoy making the first hit of the year!

Day two of my expedition into England’s south west dawned bright and sunny. After spending the night at a very nice hotel in nearby Bridport, this was my first trig of the day. I parked in the car park in Seatown; the gate was open but there was nobody in the kiosk. It said £4 on the gate but only £2 on the ‘honesty box’, so that’s what they got. I headed west along the Coast Path diversion until I joined the coast path proper. The sun was shining, the sky was blue and the path was steep... and got a lot steeper. That was quite a tough climb for an ol’ fart with a gammy leg. The pillar is in good condition except for the missing plug. The hole has been filled with asphalt. On a clear day like today, the views were excellent and well worth the climb.

The trig stands on the western edge of a gorse and grass hill top immediately above the lofty coastal cliffs between Chideock and Charmouth. The pillar has an extended concrete base that is exposed in places by a couple of inches; the top edges of the pillar have a few small chips missing; it has an asphalt plug and FB S3752. The site was reached from the beach car park at Seatown by means of the coastal footpath which is quite steep in places but has some marvellous scenery. From the pillar there is a fabulous view in most directions. The coast of Lyme Bay can be seen from Beer Head in the west to Portland in the east. To the north many of the green rolling hills of West Dorset were on view. Some nearby gorse partly restricts the view to the west but a circuit of the rim of the cap easily rectifies this. The site is the highest point on the south coast. It is part of the West Dorset Coast SSSI and a World Heritage Site primarily for its geology. My return journey skirting the woods of Langdon Hill was quite pleasant though not as spectacular as my ascent.

A walk up to Golden Cap to find the Golden Gate geocache got us our first (logged) trigpoint. There are good views to the east from the pillar, and good views to the west if one walks about 10 metres to get over to the downhill slope. Great spot.

There would be some superb views from here, the highest point on the south coast, on a clear day, but unfortunately today was not one of them. Well worth a visit, particularly to the lovely pub at the bottom of the hill.
